Jazz, R&B, rock and roll became popular, alongside closer-to-home polkas, waltzes, and the Hungarian czardas. The swing era lasted until the mids, and produced popular tunes such as Duke Ellington's "Cotton Tail" () and Billy Strayhorn's "Take the 'A' Train" (). When the big bands struggled to keep going during World War II, a shift was happening in jazz in favor of smaller groups. They came at the right time for me - maybe they'll come at the right.
